Kissinger on realism and idealism

This short op-ed by Henry Kissinger is a good statement of how Kissinger, the arch-realist, reconciles conservative idealism and conservative realism in today's international relations. I recall seeing Kissinger move this direction several years ago, when part of his memoirs appeared in book form - I don't recall the title. In that volume, he said flatly that the Helsinki Accords, which recognized human rights as an issue in East-West relations, had a profound impact on the future and final end of the Cold War. Read it here. (I seem to recall a longer version of this op-ed a few weeks ago in the International Herald Tribune.)
